Since 2001, first as Justice for Children, and since September 2012 as Child Justice, we have worked with dedicated pro bono attorneys in top law firms to provide access to justice and give children the gift of a stable, nurturing life with a loving and safe parent or guardian. With our own full time staff attorneys, we are now able to provide direct legal representation to protective parents.

Our office is located in Silver Spring, Maryland, with satellite legal offices in Columbia and Rockville. Child Justice predominantly serves families across the State of Maryland, although the organization has a national footprint, accepting a limited number of qualified cases outside of the DC area. In addition to Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, Child Justice has assisted with cases in Massachusetts, California, New York, New Jersey and Texas, and appeals before the United States Supreme Court and the United States Circuit Courts of Appeal.

Child Justice court watches hearings and trials, coordinates and signs on to amicus curiae briefs in state, federal and U.S. Supreme Court appeals, supports attorneys in litigation by providing information, legal research or referrals to experts, refers protective parents to community resources and offers emotional support for the non-offending parents and/or relatives.

Child Justice receives funding from the Maryland Governor's Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services under subaward numbers VOCA-2022-0092 and GDVC-2023-0023. All points of view on this website are those of Child Justice and do not necessarily represent the official position of any State or Federal agency.

Each year, family courts sentence 58,000 children to live with parents who are abusive, negligent or predatory. Hundreds of times a year, a child’s life ends at the hands of an abusive parent, an entirely preventable tragedy. Far too often this happens because our legal system, for a variety of reasons, isn’t equipped to identify, understand and adjudicate cases where domestic violence and child abuse are present. Child Justice works with protective mothers, protective fathers, and their children to prevent these tragedies. Our number one priority is the safety of children.

Below are a few stories from the families Child Justice has helped. To protect the identity of our clients, names and/or details of their cases may have been changed.
