Advocacy Alert – SB365 and HB405 Hearings on the Qualification and Training of Child Custody Evaluators

In February, two bill hearings will come before the Maryland General Assembly that will directly impact Child Justice clients. SB365 and HB405 are companion bills to the judicial training bill that was signed into law in May 2022.
/br> SB365/405 specifies certain qualifications and training necessary for an individual to be appointed or approved by a court as a custody evaluator; and specifies that certain expert evidence is admissible in certain child custody and visitation proceedings under certain circumstances.

SB365 will be heard on Thursday, February 8 at 1pm. HB405 will be heard on Thursday, February 15 at 1pm. The public may submit written and oral testimony on February 7 and 14.
